Energy pricing is mainly set by two inputs that are most affected by different pricing at different times of day. Here are the times. 

Anytime - all regions

We'll start with the simple one. With Anytime, you'll pay the same number of cents per kWh at every time of day and day or week. Some retailers call this 'peak only'. 


Time of Use - Residential

NSW, Ausgrid region

Peak:   2pm-8pm weekdays excluding public holidays
Shoulder: 7am-2pm, 8pm-10pm weekdays and 7am-10pm weekends and public holidays
Off Peak: all other times


NSW, Endeavour Energy region

Peak:   1pm-8pm weekdays excluding public holidays
Shoulder: 7am-1pm, 8pm-10pm weekdays and 7am-10pm weekends and public holidays
Off Peak: all other times


NSW, Essential Energy region

Peak:   7am-9am and 5pm-8pm weekdays
Shoulder: 9am-5pm and 8pm-10pm weekdays
Off Peak: all other times


QLD, Energex region

Peak:   4pm-8pm weekdays
Shoulder: 7am-4pm, 8pm-10pm weekdays and 7am-10pm weekends
Off Peak: all other times


Time of Use - Business

NSW, Ausgrid region (Powersmart)

Peak:   2pm-8pm weekdays excluding public holidays
Shoulder: 7am-2pm, 8pm-10pm weekdays and 7am-10pm weekends and public holidays
Off Peak: all other times


NSW, Ausgrid region (Loadsmart)

Peak:   2pm-8pm weekdays excluding public holidays
Shoulder: 7am-2pm, 8pm-10pm weekdaysholidays
Off Peak: all other times


NSW, Endeavour Energy region

Peak:   1pm-8pm weekdays
Shoulder: 7am-1pm, 8pm-10pm weekdays

NSW, Essential Energy region

Peak:   7am-9am and 5pm-8pm weekdays

QLD, Energex region

Peak:   7am-9pm weekdays

Controlled Load - all regions

Controlled loads are metered separately and the time of supply are usually determined by your local distributor. They're normally used for fixed appliances such as electric hot water.

NSW, Ausgrid region

Controlled load 1: Available for at least 6 hours per day between 10pm-7am. 

Controlled load 2: Available for at least 16 hours per day, 6 hours between 8pm-7am and at least 4 hours between 7am-5pm.

NSW, Endeavour region

Controlled load 1: Available for selected periods between 10pm-7am.

Controlled load 2: Available for restricted periods not exceeding 17 hours in any period of 24 hours.

NSW, Essential region

Controlled load 1: Available for 5-9 hours overnight on weekdays and extra hours on weekends except where the load is controlled by a time clock.

Controlled load 2: Available for 10-18 hours per day on weekdays and all hours on weekends except where the load is controlled by a time clock.

QLD, Energex region

Controlled load 1: Available for a minimum of 8 hours per day.

Controlled load 2: Available for a minimum of 18 hours per day.
